‘Dancing with the Stars‘ viewers are still reeling from the shocking elimination of early frontrunner Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy this past Tuesday night. But as the cliché goes, the show must go on.
So who’s it going to come out on top come next Tuesday at 10:59 pm EST? The clear-cut frontrunner that nails her routines, glides across the dance floor with grace and beauty and whom the judges and fans simply adore, Jennifer Grey?
Will it be the kid who makes us laugh with his bouncy bits, always has a smile or smirk to lighten the mood and is downright entertaining, Kyle Massey?
Or could the winner turn out to be the underdog who came into this competition with zero dance experience, zero performance skills and zero showbiz glitz or glamour, Bristol Palin?
If you believe Las Vegas odds makers such as Bodog Sportsbook, then the final three is staking up like this:
#1 Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough (paying 2/5)
#2 Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas (5/2)
#3 Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer (5/1)
Making the finale even more intriguing is the fact that good friends and band mates Derek Hough and Mark Ballas are facing off against each in the finals for the first time. The two aren’t showing their competitive nature when asked about their face-off, though. “Whoever takes it, we’ll be there shaking hands having a great time,” says Mark. “We all fly together after to New York [after the finale] and I think we’re gonna have a blast on that plane no matter who wins.”
Let’s take a look at the final three:
JENNIFER GREY & DEREK HOUGH
Why They Could Win: She is super-talented and works her butt off.
Why They Could Lose: Too much focus on her injuries and age.
My Take: She should win. She probably will win. I hope she wins. She better win.
What Jennifer Says: “I really started off in such joy and then when it got really hard, it got harder, and I wanted to get back to the joy. I feel like I have a second wind now that I didn’t have.”
What Others Say: “Jennifer is just, bottom line, a great dancer,” says Brandy.
Trophy Talk: “Oh, no, no, no. I won’t go there. I don’t do that,” laughed Jennifer when asked where she would put the mirrorball keepsake if she wins.
KYLE MASSEY & LACEY SCHWIMMER
Why They Could Win: He is highly entertaining and full of joy.
Why They Could Lose: He’s not as famous as Jennifer or Bristol.
My Take: I’d like to see him place second, but I bet he’ll lose to Bristol.
What Kyle Says: “For me, to be the only male celebrity left in the competition, I think it gives me that little curveball, but not an advantage…Feet don’t fail me now!”
What Others Say: “Kyle is just so full of energy and has so much charisma. He’s so amazing to watch. I love him,” says Brandy. Kurt Warner adds, “I think Kyle’s got a chance because he’s a tremendous entertainer, and a big part of this is entertaining and people enjoying what you do.”
Trophy Talk: “If I win I think I’m going to get an exact replica of it and wear it on a necklace and let little kids take pictures with it,” says Kyle. “The real one is going in the Smithsonian.”
BRISTOL PALIN & MARK BALLAS
Why They Could Win: The Republican vote is strong, very strong. The Tea Party, stronger.
Why They Could Lose: She can’t dance. She lacks sex appeal. She shows little emotion. She is not entertaining.
My Take: She shouldn’t even be in the finals, but now that she is, I truly do fear she might win. My bet, though, is she’ll place second behind Jennifer in an upset over Kyle.
What Bristol Says: “I never thought I’d ever make it this far. It’s so crazy. But I’m working hard and I know I’ve improved and I’m excited.”
What Others Say: “It doesn’t surprise me, necessarily, that she’s still here,” says Derek Hough. “The thing is you root for her, you know, you can’t help it. I think she’s more surprised than anybody else, to be honest with you.” Anna Trebunskaya adds, “Her fan base is the everyday regular person that just watches her journey on the show and goes, ‘Wow, that could be me.’ It’s a major underdog thing.”
Trophy Talk: “I will have to find a place for it,” says Bristol. Mark adds, “Keep it away from Tripp. They break easily!”
