Stories that there is a right-wing conspiracy keeping Bristol Palin on ‘Dancing with the Stars‘ have been kicking up dust across the Internet this week. Apparently all the conspiracy theorists have channeled their energy into an ABC dancing show. For her part, Palin denies the idea that her mother, Republican Sarah Palin, or her mother’s supporters have anything to do with her success, telling us: “I don’t think it has much to do with my mom’s political background at all. I think it’s ridiculous to say that they’re all pulling together and having this campaign for me because obviously there’s more than that. There’s more supporters out there that are voting.”
Recently booted contestant Rick Fox told us he expects Palin to win, saying “As a young woman, younger audiences connect with her. We contestants all got to know her a little bit. As you see those little bits shine through, you think ‘I want to see more of that.’”
How shocking would that be? It’s clear she’s not among the season’s best dancers, though she has proved herself much more likable and game than anyone imagined before the season began. Does she deserve to win? Does she make for good TV? Or is there foul play afoot? Our users shared some of their own thoughts on how Bristol has made it this far:
Paula K thinks Sarah Palin is to blame, writing “I don’t have anything against her [Bristol] personally but it would only be a win because her pushy mother begged for votes. Making it a political thing,” adding “It would not be an honest/legitimate win. She is the second worst dancer ever on DWTS and others have done much better than she. How could someone that dances like she does even be considered a winner? She should not even be in the finals.”
Ame is simply perplexed by Bristol’s staying power. “I don’t understand why Bristol is still on the show or why she was chosen to be on it in the first place. I really don’t think her mother has anything to do with her staying on the show. She has a difficult time following her partner and is always watching him to follow his moves. She doesn’t have any rhythm or coordination. She really doesn’t belong there and I hope she doesn’t win.”
Judy’s theory? The show’s producers are at fault. “Oh come on, the producers decide who stays and who goes – is there anyone in this country that hasn’t figured that out yet. It is the ratings and nothing else that matters.”
Anne D, on the other hand, believes Bristol has improved week over week. “I do vote every week and I vote for BRISTOL AND MARK…. It a dance show folks. Most improved. Just a regular person. I think she has improved 100% Go Bristol!!!!! Mark is doing a fantastic job!!!!”
What do you think? Does Bristol still deserve a spot on the show? Do you believe there’s fraud at work? Who do you want to win?
