So what’s the ‘inside’ story behind reports that there’s a battle of the blondes brewing between rival entertainment show hosts Lara Spencer and Nancy O’Dell?

The Insider‘ host Lara Spencer was allegedly ‘fuming’ over the ‘surprise’ announcement earlier this week that ‘Access Hollywood‘s Nancy O’Dell was named the replacement for Mary Hart on ‘Entertainment Tonight.’

It seems Spencer believed she was a shoo-in to become the heir-apparent to the coveted gig after Hart departs next year and was ‘blindsided’ by the news. According to The New York Post, O’Dell’s aggressive agent went over the head of ‘ET’ producer Linda Bell (who was on Team Spencer) to top CBS brass Les Moonves and swayed him in favor of O’Dell.

Reports claim Spencer had moved her family from New York to Los Angeles two years ago “with the promise that Hart’s job was hers when the time came.”

Now Spencer is setting the record straight (or doing damage control), saying there’s no feud between the two ladies and she’s just pleased as punch that O’Dell landed the job.

“That couldn’t be further from the truth,” Spencer told People of the rivalry rumors. “There’s no feud. I have a great job. I host a show that I love and that I helped launch.”

She went on to say that Nancy “is a really great choice. I’ve known her for years and she’s going to be a great addition to the team. There’s nothing but love – and I mean that.”
