Chelsea Handler is going prime time.
The host of ‘Chelsea Lately‘ is set to interview Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway and Christina Aguilera on her own “Chelsea’s Big Interview” Special, airing on E! November 22.
Set to air at 10 p.m., it will be Handler’s second primetime special. Earlier this year, she fired questions at Demi Moore, Robin Wright, and Bradley Cooper.
Demi even took to her Twitter page and wrote of Handler, “Love her.”
Clearly the folks at E! do, too.
And for good reason.
Handler, who has authored numerous bestselling comedic memoirs, including ‘Are You There Vodka? It Me, Chelsea,’ has a bold, smart, uninhibited interview style that resonates solidly with both a younger and female demo.
She’s also well-liked among celebrities, who know she’s going to ask not just tough but naughty questions, and they come ready to play.
Like her or not, Handler manages to rise about the political, safe, and boring chatter that dominates TV. Hers is a unique voice not just among the male-dominated late night talkers, but in general.
Yes, she indulges in a predilection for the easy, sex-based, dirty jokes that sometimes takes her off base, but she gets away with it. Sometimes you can almost see her inner conversation on screen as she works out material before delivering it on the spot – and that’s fun, as well as something you saw in pioneers like Steve Allen and Jack Paar.
Handler’s fearlessness is also essential to get fresh dish from over-exposed celebs.
With Barbara Walters retiring from celebrity interviews, Handler could, with some careful manicuring of her style, take over as TV’s top-rated prime time interlocutor.
It’s hard to picture Handler asking someone, “”If you were a tree, what kind would you be?” as Walters did of Katherine Hepburn in 1981. However, it’s easy to imagine Handler re-working that question.
Think about it.
The “Chelsea’s Big Interview Special” premieres Monday, November 22 at 10:00pm ET/PT only on E!
