‘Skating with the Stars‘ could quite possibly become the most dangerous show on television.
Razor-like blades, unforgiving ice, aerials gone awry and inexperienced skaters are just a recipe for disaster. But isn’t that why we’ll be tuning-in?
We’re not the only ones worried for this crazy cast either. They’re very worried themselves.
“I’m scared. I’m really nervous … tonight, it hit home. I’m like, ‘Holy crap. What have I done?’” said soap star Rebecca Budig (‘All My Children’) after the live cast announcement was made on ‘Dancing with the Stars‘ Tuesday night.
Brandon Mychal Smith (from Disney’s ‘Sonny with a Chance’) echoes those fears. “All I can say is pray for me,” Smith confessed. “The ice is unforgiving. It’s not an environment you can go into haphazardly. You have to be focused. You have to be aware of all the dangers of it. Ice is crazy.”
The six celebrity skaters also include ‘Real Housewife’ Bethenny Frankel, Motley Crue singer Vince Neil and actress Sean Young, but it’s the athlete in the bunch who sounds the bravest.
Given the fact that he’s already a daredevil by jumping off helicopters to ski, Olympic skier Jonny Moseley doesn’t fear for himself that much. It’s the female stars and pros on the show that he’s most worried about. “It’s like an extreme sport, especially for my skating wife,” he said.
Injuries are already running rampant on the Los Angeles set, which is located on the same stage ‘DWTS’ is taped on, only with ice, of course.
“We were actually doing a move where the leg comes up and the skate hit me right in my knee. I didn’t get cut, but I couldn’t walk for a while and I had to take two or three days off from practice and get my limp on,” said Smith of his first injury during practice.
Moseley, meanwhile, is most worried about his ankle. “I broke my ankle in June getting out of a forklift helping my dad out at the shop. I’m worried about that thing not holding up,” he said. “Sean Young is like, ‘Have you crashed again? I’ve crashed twice.’ I’m like, ‘I’ve crashed three times today.’ I’m down all the time. Staying healthy is probably going to be the biggest challenge.”
‘Skating with the Stars’ debuts on Monday, Nov. 22, from 9-11 p.m./EST, on ABC.
