The Real World 6 – Boston‘ star Sean Duffy isn’t the first celebrity elected to political office. Nor is he the most famous. That list includes Ronald Reagan, Sonny Bono, Fred Thompson, and ‘Love Boat’ purser Fred Grandy. But the 39-year-old Republican joined those ranks Tuesday night by winning open House seat in Wisconsin’s 7th District. Duffy won the seat that opened up with the retirement of David Obey, a Democrat who has served the 7th District since 1969. “What a great night in Wisconsin,” Duffy declared at his post-midnight victory celebration. Duffy, whose campaign emphasized a balanced federal budget and relying on the private sector to create jobs, is a former Ashland County district attorney. He appeared on MTV’s ‘Real World’ in 1997, standing out as “a conservative Midwesterner.” He married ‘Real World San Francisco’s Rachel Campos, and the two have six children. “Sean from my season of The Real World Boston is now a US Congressman!” Duffy’s fellow ‘Real World’ participant Syrus Yarbrough wrote on Twitter. “Congrats my brotha!” Early Wednesday morning Duffy tweeted, “Thanks Wisconsin! You decided America’s best days are ahead of us! Let’s get America back on track!!” Maybe he can start with reality television.
