ABC has set a Wednesday, January 12, premiere date for ‘Off The Map,’ a new medical drama exec-produced in part by ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘/’Private Practice‘ creator Shonda Rhimes. The series will cap the night at 10/9c, leading out of the ‘Modern Family’/'Cougar Town’ comedy block.

ABC’s press release sums up the new series as one about “six doctors who have lost their way and will go to the ends of the earth to try to remember the reasons why they wanted to become doctors in the first place.”

In the first episode, doctors Lily Brenner (Caroline Dhavernas, ‘Wonderfalls’), Mina Minard (Mamie Gummer, ‘The Good Wife’) and Tommy Fuller (Zach Gilford, ‘Friday Night Lights’) arrive in a tiny town in the South American jungle which has one understaffed, under-stocked medical clinic. There they meet – and quickly get schooled by – Ben Keeton (Martin Henderson, Australia’s ‘Big Sky’), a legendary young surgeon who walked away from a prestigious position at UCLA to found the clinic. Ben is assisted by Otis Cole (Jason George, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’), Ryan Clark (Rachelle Lefevre, ‘Twilight: New Moon’) and local doctor Zitajalehrena “Zee” Alvarez (Valerie Cruz, ‘Nip/Tuck’).

‘Off the Map’ was created by Jenna Bans (‘Grey’s Anatomy’), with ‘Grey’s’ pals Betsy Beers and Rhimes also executive-producing.
