Xfinity On Demand today premieres Sex and the City 2 as well as the Oscar-buzzing Winter’s Bone. Also very notable is the premiere of Edward Burns’ latest independent effort Nice Guy Johnny, fresh off the film festival circuit and into your home. Take a closer look at these movies below.
Nice Guy Johnny
Edward Burns, known for his low-key stories about personal relationships, delivers his latest independent film about a young man named Johnny Rizzo (Matthew Bush) in the process of giving up his dream in sports broadcasting and getting a steady job he’ll hate in order to marry his fiancee. His uncle Terry (Burns) is an inveterate lothario who believes Johnny’s making a huge mistake, so he makes every effort to sabotage that impending marriage. Johnny resists until he’s set up with a girl named Brooke (Kerry Bishe), who slowly starts to capture his imagination and provide him some inspiration.
Sex and the City 2
Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) are back for more pithy remarks about shoes, and this time they leave the City and travel to Abu Dhabi for a cross-cultural romp, and maybe they’ll even learn a thing or two.
Jennifer Lawrence is getting Oscar buzz for starring in this quietly austere backwoods drama about a 17-year-old girl forced to raise her two siblings and tend to her infirm mother. She hasn’t seen her criminal father in many moons, but when she finds out he signed over their house to make his bail, she has to hunt down him down and make sure he doesn’t skip his court date – and that leads down a dark path that might not let her out alive.
