For anyone rooting for Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough these past six weeks on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ it was pretty rough seeing the power pair screw up Monday night and land at the low end of the leaderboard.
But Jennifer just laughed it off. “The truth is that it’s a dance show, dude,” she told Fancast after the show.
“The one thing I do know is that I worked super hard and I got all this stuff going on. I got injuries and fatigue, just like everybody. And it’s hard. It’s relentless and it’s also fun. But it’s intense. It’s just how it goes, baby. It’s how the cookie crumbles sometimes.”
So what exactly happened? It was at the end of their Paso Doble when an arm slide seemed to go wrong and the two got a bit wobbly and tangled up, causing them to get reamed by the judges and ending up in the second to last spot with a score of 20.
Carrie Ann Inaba called it “rough, rough, rough.” Bruno Tonioli said Grey needed to tone it down a bit and that she looked like a woman at the edge of a nervous breakdown. Ouch, and this for the woman who has topped the leaderboard and come out of the gate as the Season 11 frontrunner? Double ouch!
“I was out of my body at that point. I’ll check the videotape. I just lost my balance,” Grey explained. Derek added, “It was a rough night, but you know what? We’re on a roller coaster. We don’t need the judges to tell us whether it’s not good. We knew when we finished it; we were like, ‘Whoops.’ But it’s okay. We’ve had maybe a rough two weeks … hey man, if that’s it, then rock and roll. We’re here to stay.”
As for the reports that the ‘Dirty Dancing’ star wants out, Jennifer said, “You know what? No. I’m just tired. I’m just fatigued. I’m just a little worse for wear. That’s all. A little wear and tear.”
Her remedy? “A lot of ice and ibuprofen!”
