One cast member is out and a new one is in as ‘Jersey Shore’ looks ahead to its third season. That’s the word from series co-creator SallyAnn Salsano, who’s already gearing up for the third cycle just as the sophomore run wraps.

In the new season, premiering January 6, the guidos and guidettes will be back in Seaside Heights, N.J., following their second-season detour to Miami Beach. What’s in store on the ‘Shore’?

“All the relationships start taking a turn – some for the good, some for the bad,” Salsano told The Hollywood Reporter. “There’s plenty of drama. There are some new hook-ups, both in the house and outside. The kids legitimately grow up and come into their own in front of your eyes.”

“They’re still the same cast,” Salsano stresses, “but I think how they deal with situations is completely different.”

Angelina Pivarnick will not be back, but a new housemate, Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi‘s pal Deena, will be joining the ensemble. “She’s a good time,” Salsano says of the new addition. “It was hard for her to come in because there was a pre-existing relationship between everyone. There was literally no shortage of drama.”

Salsono, who was previously quoted as saying her cast was “replaceable,” now appears to have reversed that stance. “No, I can’t replace these kids,” she told THR. “They’re a special group and unique unto them.”

She also said the recent ‘Jersey Shore’ spoof unleashed by ‘South Park’ was the ultimate compliment.

“It completely felt surreal,” Salsano shared. “I’m a huge fan of ‘South Park’ and I was just watching the show going, ‘Is this really happening?’ Where most people dream of an Emmy, for me I was like, ”Shore’ is on the cover on Star magazine and an episode of ‘South Park.” For me, there is [nothing] better.”
