Look who’s decided to remain just ‘Friends.’

Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette have separated after 11 years of marriage, according to TMZ.

Sources connected to the couple tell the web site they’ve been apart for “several months” but are “still friends” and plan to maintain their “business relationship” (they share a production company called Coquette).

Cox, 46, and Arquette, 39, acknowledged reports of the split Monday, confirming that they “agreed to a trial separation that dates back for some time.”

“The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage,” the couple said in a statement. “We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply. As we go though this process we are determined to use kindness and understanding to get through this together.”

“We are comfortable with the boundaries that we have established for each other during this separation and we hope that our friends, family, fans and the media also show us respect, dignity, understanding and love at this time as well,” they added.

The ‘Cougar Town‘ star met Arquette on the set of the 1996 horror film, ‘Scream.’ They married in 1999 and have one daughter together, Coco Riley, who turned six this year.

The couple recently shot the latest sequel to the film franchise, ‘Scream 4,’ this summer in Detroit. It’s scheduled for release on April 15, 2011.

No details on the cause of the split are available at this time. It’s unknown if related, but Cox took a mystery break from the set of her hit ABC sitcom last November to tend to a “private family matter.”
