There’s no two ways about it: ‘Jersey Shore’ will be spun off, especially in light of its ever-increasing ratings. Seriously, every time I read about the MTV series hitting a “new all-time high,” for starters I remember the theme song to ‘Octopussy,’ but then I weep for the quality scripted series that would kill to flirt with 7 million viewers.
Seriously – AMC’s acclaimed ‘Mad Men’ barely musters an audience of 2 million.
But I digress! So who from the ‘Jersey’ gang is so compelling, so complex, that the original show’s weekly hour doesn’t begin to scrape the surface of what you want – nay, need – to know about him/her?
One spin-off rumor has been sufficiently snuffed: There will be no dating show seeking a mate for Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi. For one, who would apply? Would applications be handed out to staggering louts after last call at Bamboo Bar?
Instead, says the Hollywood Reporter, any potential off-shoot would likely chronicle a part of a cast member’s life not being given sufficient play on the mothership.
One concept gaining traction is a docusoap about “Pauly D” DelVecchio’s job as a deejay. To that end, THR says MTV has been shooting and banking extra footage of Pauly Do doing his thing (“spinning platters” is how I think the kids put it these days).
And Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino told Fancast the other day at the ‘Dancing With the Stars’ set that his own series is being bandied about. It would cover “the business of Situation or family Situation, pretty much the inner workings of the brand Situation,” he said. (We’re still translating.)
And though she won’t be starring in her own, undoubtedly sad version of ‘The Bachelorette,’ Snooki is also a good bet to score her own docuseries.
Interestingly, there’s no buzz surrounding a possible spin-off for Jenni “Jwoww” Farley, who with her fashion line, would seem to have an actual occupation to talk about.
‘Jersey Shore’ fans, we know you’re out there. Tell us, which cast member would you like to know more about?
