Well, that didn’t take long. Only a few days after Rick Sanchez lost his CNN anchor position for disparaging Jon Stewart on a satellite radio program as “a bigot” and belonging to an “elite, Northeast establishment liberals” that “deep down, when they look at a guy like me, they see a guy automatically who belongs in the second tier, and not the top tier,” ‘The Daily Show’ host fired back. According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, in his monologue at Saturday night’s Comedy Central autism fundraiser “Night Of Too Many Stars,” which he hosted, Stewart said, “If you went on radio and said the Jews control the media…you may want to hold on to your money.” Then, addressing Sanchez’s remarks that Jewish people run CNN and the other networks , the comic added, “All he has to do is apologize to us, and we’ll hire him back.” David Letterman, making a surprise appearance at the event, added his two cents, explaining he was in town “helping Rick Sanchez clean out his office.” Reaction around the Internet to Stewart’s remarks (after filtering out the unfortunate biases that typically clutter comment sections) has been decidedly mixed, with comments varying from “pretty funny” to “not funny” to “aren’t Jon Stewart’s jokes at Rick Sanchez’s expense a form of bullying?” to Gawker.com‘s spot-on speculation as to how long it will take before Sanchez is booked on ‘The Daily Show.’
