Anderson Cooper is set to do a 180, going from news to talk.

CNN’s Silver Fox has signed a deal to host his own daytime chat show, to be produced by Telepictures and distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television come fall 2011, it was announced on Thursday.

“With this new program I hope to relay important information and relate to people and the audience in a completely different way,” Cooper said in a statement. “It’s an exciting opportunity to show another side of myself and create something worthwhile and special in daytime.”

The ‘Anderson Cooper 360‘ host, who’s also an occasional ‘60 Minutes‘ contributor, would continue to do his highly regarded nighttime news report on CNN while joining the ranks of those attempting to fill the daytime void resulting from Oprah Winfrey‘s departure.

“Fall ’11 begins a transition period when long established franchises are leaving the air and making way for a new generation of shows,” notes Ken Werner, president of Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. “[Anderson Cooper]‘s popularity and skills uniquely position him to be the next big syndication franchise.”

Others with a horse in the Replace Oprah Race include Jenny McCarthy, Dr. Oz, Nancy Grace, and Sara Gilbert‘s new ‘View’-like entry, ‘The Talk.’ But Cooper, whose show would include celebrity interviews and traditional daytime topics, is a bright wild card who has been an exceptionally entertaining fill-in over the years for Regis Philbin on ‘Live! With Regis and Kelly.’

Specifically, the press release for Cooper’s new venture promises a show that will cover “social issues, trends and events, pop culture and celebrity, human interest stories and populist news…. From undercover investigations to hidden camera experiments, the show will give the audience new perspective in an effort to gain insight into relevant issues and social trends affecting women’s lives. In addition, Cooper will hold town hall meetings on hot button issues from race to infidelity to Internet predators.”

Other daytime stars who, like Cooper, came to us the news arena include Barbara Walters, Meredith Vieira, and Phil Donohue.
