CNN anchor Don Lemon made a startling admission on air over the weekend: He revealed that he was a victim of sexual abuse as a child.

Lemon, 44, was covering the scandal facing Bishop Eddie Long of Georgia, who is accused of sexually abusing male teenage members of his church.

“I have never admitted this on television,” Lemon said while interviewing three supporters from the evangelical minister’s church. “I’m a victim of a pedophile when I was a kid. Someone who was much older than me.”

After making the revelation on live TV, Lemon added, “I didn’t tell my mom that until I was 30 years old.”

“Thank you all for your kind words. I had no idea I’d say that on national tv. It just came out,” Lemon wrote in a message on Twitter after the broadcast. “Sadly, it’s the truth for so many young men.”
