What a difference a decade makes.

Tonight marks the debut of ABC’s new verité-style drama ‘My Generation‘ (8/7c).

In the year 2000 an archetypal group of Austin high school seniors – the rich kid; the jock; the nerd – were the focus of a documentary shortly before graduation. Today, the documentary crew has caught back up with them as they return home.

For some, it’s a startling wake-up call to how little their lives have changed over the past ten years. For others, the homecoming serves as a bittersweet reminder of what life used to be.

By casting a group of relative unknowns (Kelli Garner, Daniella Alonso, Julian Morris) ABC has taken a gamble. Pitting the series against heavy-hitters ‘Bones’ (Fox), and ‘The Big Bang Theory’ (CBS) will also prove an uphill battle.

Executive producer Warren Littlefield admits he’s ready for the challenge. “We respect that it’s a tough period, and I think the only thing we can do is do the best possible show we can,” he says. “Ultimately, we just need to find an audience that embraces us. Hopefully, it’s compatible with ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and the night for them [ABC]. So it’s somehow making that connection with the critical mass. We know that there are no guarantees. But we’re pretty excited and feel privileged to be able to make the show.”

The show’s cast spoke to our very own Matt Mitovich about what’s in store for them this season:

Julian Morris (‘Pretty Little Liars’), Jaime King (‘Gary Unmarried’) and Daniella Alonso (‘One Tree Hill’)

Mehcad Brooks (‘True Blood’), Keir O’Donnell (‘Wedding Crashers’) and Kelli Garner (‘Lars and the Real Girl’)

Anne Son (‘ER’) and Michael Stahl-David (‘The Black Donnellys’)
