“I was going to announce the name of my new show… but my lawyers tell me ‘The Return of Nanny McPhee’ is taken. Tune in tomorrow.”

O’Brien’s Frankenstein Recording to Debut on Sirius

That was the word from Conan O’Brien on Tuesday, as speculation grew as to what he’s dub his new TBS talker. Well, tomorrow is now here, and Conan unveiled the title via a video released to New York Magazine:

That’s right – that cheeky monkey done gone and pulled the trigger on the envelope-pushing name ‘Conan.’ Tonight, we all sleep well.

“I’m just using ‘Conan’ and dropping the ‘O’Brien’ because I want to get away from the whole Irish thing,” the funnyman said in a statement.

There had been talk that the one-word ‘Conan’ title was off the table, due to some sort of “rights” issue involving Conan Properties International, a Euro company involved with the Conan the Barbarian film series. Team CoCo’s lawyers either finagled their way around that glitch, or doled out some greenbacks.

Is the name of O’Brien’s new late-night talker everything you wished and dreamed it would be? Dare we hope that Arnold Schwarzenegger – aka “Conan the Barbarian” – is his first guest?

‘Conan’ premieres November 8, on TBS.
