X-Men: First Class is not the only Marvel property that Fox is looking to jumpstart – there’s also the Fantastic Four reboot in the works, and the latest rumor is that both Adrien Brody and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers are in the running to step into the role of the elastic team patriarch Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic.

As for his wife, Susan Storm-Richards, aka The Invisible Woman, Amber Heard has been mentioned, as has Alice Eve, who was apparently just replaced in the aforementioned X-Men flick by January Jones, if the rumor mill is accurate. The word is they’re not even going to try to replace Michael Chiklis in the rubbery rock-man suit for Ben Grimm. Instead, they plan to go the full CGI route a la The Incredible Hulk to create the massive ever-lovin’ blue-eyed Thing. No word yet on any possible players being passed The Human Torch, but since the last guy who played him (Chris Evans) is now playing Captain America, the role is likely to be coveted by up-and-coming actors all around.

Keep in mind there’s also no word on a director yet, either, so these rumors could change quickly.

Going after Brody, an Academy Award winner, does seem to indicate that Fox has gotten the message that their previous Fantastic Four efforts have been lackluster at best and that they need to step up their game in this post-Iron Man/Dark Knight era. The movie world needs a Dr. Doom that is as cool, evil and intimidating a presence as Darth Vader, and we haven’t seen him yet.
