Kourtney and Khloe might have taken Miami, but Kourtney and Scott are taking the ratings. All anyone can talk about following last week’s highly watched finale of ‘Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami‘ is the state of the oldest Kardashian sister’s relationship with her alcohol-addled baby daddy, Scott Disick.

We caught up with the Kardashian clan at E!’s premiere party for the new season of the family reality show in Hollywood Thursday night to get the scoop on what’s up with quite possibly the most vilified couple since, dare we say, Spencer and Heidi.

“We are doing well,” Kourtney told us. “Working on things, always. You know, doing good. Taking it day by day. He is Mason’s father so you will definitely see him on the next season [of 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians'].”

Sneak Peek of the New Season of the Kardashians:

One hope Kourtney has for Scott next season is for America to see what she sees in him: “I think he definitely needs to earn everybody’s trust back in my family and probably everyone who watches the show as well. Hopefully you’ll see the path and the process that we go through.”

Their path thus far has been filled with Scott’s drunken rages, Kourtney’s tears, and the family not exactly approving of their daughter’s choice in men. But Kourtney said Scott takes it all in stride.

“We watched one episode and Scott was checking his Twitter and people were like, ‘Eat shit and die.’ And he was like, ‘This isn’t the right time to be checking my Twitter.’ He’s good. He’s a great sport. He is trying to be in a positive place in his life, trying to keep things on a good path.”

Step dad Bruce Jenner is singing Scott’s praises now too. “Here’s the deal on Scott: Scott is doing very well. He totally stopped drinking. I have not seen a drink in his hand in months and months. Totally gone. I think he’s been very responsible and it shows a lot of character. People can change.”

“He was never really considered a big drinker in the sense that he drank all the time,” Bruce continued. “But if he had one drink, he couldn’t stop. And he totally got out of control. Obviously he had a problem. He wouldn’t stop. But he really has worked hard. He’s like, ‘I just can’t even touch the stuff. ‘ And he’s much better off. And I think he really feels a lot of responsibility because of Mason and so he’s been working a lot. It’s been okay. I hope it continues.”

So if Scott asked for his daughter’s hand in marriage today, what would Jenner say? “Well, he’s not marrying me,” joked Bruce. “What would I say? I’d say, ‘Yeah.’ It’s Kourtney’s decision and I support Kourtney. Kourtney’s a smart girl.”

Younger sister Kim agrees: “Kourtney is a really strong person. She’s really smart. She knows what she wants and Scott is the father of her baby so she will do anything she can to keep her family together and with or without them being together, whether they are together or not, she knows this is the father of her child and she just wants them to have a good relationship.”

As for how Kourtney handles the naysayers, she said, “I just have to stay strong and know that it’s my life and I have to do what makes me happy.”

Season 5 of ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians‘ premieres this Sunday, August 22, on E!
