Joe Perry hip-checked Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler into the audience during a concert in Toronto Tuesday night. Perry and the band continued vamping on “Love in an Elevator” long enough for Tyler to scale a security guard back on the stage and announce: “It ain’t gonna happen again!” (You can watch the clip here.)

Perhaps Perry was just venting anger over recent news that Tyler could be interrupting the band’s touring schedule when he becomes the newest judge on ‘American Idol‘ – in what has to be the first time the 62-year-old rocker has ever been a replacement for Jennifer Lopez. (Although he might have helped ‘Maid in Manhattan.’)

The bump came a week after Tyler seemed to accidentally crack Perry on the noggin with his mike stand during a concert at Jones Beach, New York, and a year after Tyler broke his shoulder in a similar stage tumble prompting him to quit the band for a while.

Is ‘Idol’ Rock ‘n’ Roll Enough for Steven Tyler?

Fox still isn’t officially confirming that Tyler is the newest judge – maybe because that’ll stop the endless speculation (and headlines) – but some of Tyler’s band mates are behind the move.
“Steven is someone who absolutely lives to be in front of an audience,” says bassist Tom Hamilton, who described Tyler as “witty and entertaining.”

And just as soon as someone explains to grandpa Tyler what ‘American Idol’ is, he’ll surely get to show that off as judge. From a safe seated position.
