And now for another installment of ‘As American Idol Turns’….

When last we tuned into the protracted speculation on exactly who will judge the Fox series come January 2011, the word on the street (or at least the street where People.com‘s singular unnamed source lives) was that Jennifer Lopez was out of the running due to excessive demands.

Report: Jennifer Lopez Will Not Be An ‘American Idol’ Judge

With Jenny on the Block allegedly in flux, TMZ hears that country music beauty Shania Twain – one of ‘Idol’s best-received and actually constructive celeb mentors/guest judges – is sitting in the on-deck circle, ready to claim J.Lo’s spot.

But Steven Tyler, he’s a lock to grab a chair at the ‘Idol’ dais, right? Not so fast. In a paparazzi video shot by Splash News, the Aerosmith shrieker claims, “They haven’t called me yet.” He then hints – OK, outright says – “They’ve got to lay out the bread for me, baby!”

Kara DioGuardi ‘Disappointed’ By ‘Idol’ Diss

So, be it Lopez and/or Tyler, it sounds like ‘Idol’ won’t be walking away with a bargain if it ultimately books either recording artist for Season 10.
