Playing on the title of his new IFC comedy, ‘The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret,’ Cross was asked what poor decisions he has made, to which he replied, “Well, uh, I’m making a really great decision right now by choosing my answer. I mean, uh, gosh. I sh*t myself one time. It wasn’t a decision, but I just thought it was going to be a fart. It turned out to be a bad decision.”
Bad decision, or perhaps just one of those harmless little fibs that comics make up to be, well, more comical? “That is the truth,” he said. “It was last summer. I was wearing shorts. I was walking my dog. I did blame it on my dog…Oh what’s another poor decision? Telling that.”
True or not, we love him anyway. And his new show, about a dimwitted, culturally uncool office temp who lies his way into a big sales position in London to sell an energy drink, looks equally lovable. Showing up for the six-episode run, which starts October 1, will be Will Arnett, Janeane Garofalo, Russ Tamblyn, and Cross’s real life girlfriend Amber Tamblyn, who plays his American “girlfriend.”
“It was a great way to have her involved,” said Cross of casting Tamblyn. “Her character will play a more significant part in the story I have in series three. I can’t give anything away. Her character, should we get to do more, would come over to England and seek Todd out for reasons I can’t say.” As for the first six episodes, Tamblyn makes “a few appearances, little flashbacks and stuff.”
The real reason to cast Tamblyn? “It is a great way to work with my girlfriend and get a free ticket to London because that stuff is not cheap,” he joked.
And for the ‘Arrested Development’ fans out there, still no new news on the movie front. “I have no idea if there’s going to be a movie,” he said, “but we’re all up for it. I can tell you I’ve talked to every single person except for two. Everyone’s into it. We’re just waiting on a script. We all want it to happen.”
