NBC kicked off its executive session at Friday’s Television Critics Association press tour with a flurry of shiny, sexy news.

Among the Peacock’s announcements: ‘30 Rock,’ which on its best days is deliriously irreverent, will dare to kick things up a notch with a live episode airing October 14.

“[Executive producers] Lorne [Michaels] and Tina [Fey] are very up for,” said NBC entertainment president Angela Bromstad. “We think it’s a great idea.”

On the casting front, Rob Lowe has been promoted to series regular on ‘Parks and Recreation,’ where he made his debut late last season after bowing out of ABC’s ‘Brothers & Sisters.’

Also regarding NBC’s Thursday night comedy line-up, Drew Carey is dropping by ‘Community‘ (which earlier this month booked red-hot Betty White for its premiere), and Kathy Bates is due back at ‘The Office.’

Speaking of ‘The Office,’ NBC execs confirmed that a plan is in place to usher out the Michael Scott character, seeing as Steve Carell is checking out after this season.

On the drama front, NBC aims to capitalize on ‘America’s Got Talent’s final episodes by launching a few shows earlier than planned.

Parenthood‘ will now return Tuesday, September 14; Jimmy Smits’ ‘Outlaw’ will get a sneak peek after the September 15 ‘AGT’ finale before officially premiering two days later; and ‘The Apprentice‘ will get a two-hour premiere on September 16.

Of the two ‘Law & Order’ shows, ‘SVU‘ will now get a two-hour premiere on Wednesday, September 22, pushing back the ‘Law & Order: Los Angeles‘ series debut to September 29.
