A new name has busted out of the pack to possibly help fill the void being left on the ‘American Idol‘ dais: Jessica Simpson.

“Jessica has been approached … but nothing has been confirmed yet on either end,” a source close to the pneumatic songstress tells TODAYshow.com.

Bringing on J-Simp however would not be a 1-for-1 exchange for the now-gone Simon Cowell, but part of a grander plan to freshen up Fox’s top-rated reality competition as it enters its 10th season in January.
