Did the Cubs’ curse stretch all the way to the streets of New York, or was Bill Murray just looking for an excuse to play hooky?
That was the question after Murray missed the Wednesday Cinema Society screening of his new movie ‘Get Low‘ costarring Sissy Spacek and Robert Duvall.
Earlier that day, the longtime suffering Cubs fan performed a stunt for ‘The Late Show with David Letterman‘ in which he threw himself into a make-shift pool outside the Ed Sullivan theater. The funnyman climbed atop the Dumpster pool and took the plunge while shouting the name of Cubs’ manager Lou Pinella, who recently announced his retirement.
The New York Daily News reported that a small scratch could be seen on the side of Murray’s head after he trashed around for the bit, but during his segment with Letterman, neither man made reference to it.
There was also some speculation that the Hollywood-phobic actor, who doesn’t have an agent, manager or publicist, only an 800 number, just didn’t feel like schmoozing at the premiere.
