It has been a whirlwind week for former USDA employee Shirley Sherrod. First, she found herself the target of an attack by right wingers, including Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, who lambasted the government official for making seemingly racist remarks at a NAACP banquet.

Now, O’Reilly is back peddling, telling his audience, “She may well have been treated unfairly.”

The unfair treatment O’Reilly referred to was his own reporting, as the video clip broadcast Monday night, which showed Sherrod referencing white and black relations, was taken out of context.

“I did not analyze the entire transcript and that was unfair to Ms. Sherrod,” the host said on ‘The O’Reilly Factor‘ last night. “I owe Ms. Sherrod an apology for not doing my homework, for not putting her remarks into the proper context.”

In light of contextual issues with the video clip played earlier this week, the White House issued an apology to Sherrod, saying, “One of the great lessons you take away from this is to ask all the questions first and come to a full understanding.”
