Following months of speculation, lobbying and jockeying, a new daytime talk show has been tapped to scrub in and fill the void being left by the long-running soap opera ‘As The World Turns.’

Oft summed up as a “mommy-centric rival to ABC’s ‘The View,’” the as-yet-untitled CBS daytime talker will be cohosted by Julie Chen (‘The Early Show’), series creator Sara Gilbert (‘Roseanne’), go-to brash Brit Sharon Osbourne, Leah Remini (‘King of Queens’) and actress/football wife Holly Robinson-Peete.

Broadway baby Marissa Jaret Winokur (‘Hairspray’) is also a part of the rotation, every member of which is a mother.

Of note, Gilbert brings to the discussion the perspective of a mom in a long-term, same-sex relationship; Peete has a 12-year-old son diagnosed with autism, and Chen is a brand-new, first-time parent (with husband/CBS honcho Les Moonves).

With ‘ATWT’ slated to sign off on September 17, the new talker is being fast-tracked for an October launch.

That the talk show got the nod to claim ‘World Turns’ throne means that two other contenders – Andy Richter’s ‘Pyramid’ reboot and Emeril Lagasse’s cooking/game show – are out of the running, though both are now reportedly being shopped elsewhere.

Daytime Talk: Valerie Bertinelli’s Show Is No Go

A third possible ‘ATWT’ sub – a talk show cohosted by Valerie Bertinelli (‘Hot In Cleveland’) and Aussie personality Rove McManus – got the hook earlier this month.
