‘The Hills’ finale party-crasher Spencer Pratt admits that he is in large part to blame for his and wife Heidi Montag’s recent split.

“We love each other but I’m a fame whore, and I’ll never grow out of it,” Pratt tells People. “[Heidi] knows that and doesn’t want that.”

“I want every kind of press,” he adds, whereas Heidi “just wants to hike and hang out and be calmer.”

“There’s no way my love for fame and her love for puppies will ever work out successfully,” he says.

Spencer says that while Heidi knew what she was getting into when she married him, he suspects she believed his fame whore ways would dissipate. “I’m still the same Spencer who went on ‘The Hills’ to be famous,” he counters. “I still need to do stunts.”

To that end, Pratt most recently showed up, invited, at the ‘Hills’ wrap party dressed as an old, bearded man.

As a result, the couple agreed to separate some seven weeks ago, and Heidi has ditched the “Speidi” moniker that long had linguistically tethered them to each other.

Instead, says Spencer, “She wants to be Heidi Montag, the sex symbol.”

‘Hills’ fans and other reality-TV gluttons, what do you make of Spencer’s “confession”? Does he really strike you as the more fame-whorish of the two? And do you skeptics out there still wonder if this split is full of… nonsense?
