Citing the “long friendship” they have shared over the years, Whoopi Goldberg spoke up on Monday’s ‘The View’ to defend loud-mouthed scandal magnet Mel Gibson.

Somewhat.

Gibson is under fire as the result of a recently released audio recording in which his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, is harshly berated by someone who sounds like the Aussie actor.

“You look like a f–king pig in heat,” the man yells, crudely, “and if you get raped by a pack of n—-rs, it will be your fault.”

Though that is but a sampling of the recording, Whoopi said, “I know Mel, and I know he’s not a racist. You can say that he’s a bonehead, but I can’t… say that he’s a racist, having spent time with him in my house, with my kids.”

Goldberg made clear, “I don’t like what [Mel]‘s done,” but posited that “drunks say stupid stuff to people all the time… because they’re… out of control.”

That said, she added, “I don’t think he’s drunk on this rant.”

So which is it, Whoopi? Is the recording of an out-of-control, drunk, non-racist, or… what?
