If Piers Morgan takes over for Larry King, blame Simon Cowell.

Ordinarily Hollywood’s major deals are brokered by CAA, William Morris Endeavor, or ICM, but the former ‘American Idol’ judge used his own clout to open talks between his ‘Britain’s Got Talent‘ pal and the cable news network.

“[Morgan] was under contract to us on ‘America’s Got Talent,’ so he called me and we helped sort of broker the deal,” Cowell told ex-girlfriend Terri Seymour on ‘EXTRA.’

“Piers is without question the best interviewer I’ve ever been interviewed by,” he said, smartly adding, “apart from you, Terri.”

Cowell and Morgan are pals. Both are judges on ‘Britain’s Got Talent,’ and Cowell produces ‘America’s Got Talent.’

In the EXTRA interview, which is scheduled to run in full on Tuesday night, Cowell also began speculating about who he thought might replace him on ‘Idol.’

Can you guess who he said was leading the rumor pack? Harry Connick Jr. What do you think of that? What do you think of Piers on CNN?
