Movie of the Week: Rob Corddry & Ed Helms in ‘Blackballed’

The Fancast Movie of the Week is Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story, starring Hot Tub Time Machine legend and Daily Show alum Rob Corddry as Bobby Dukes, who was a paintball legend in his teenage years before he was caught cheating just when he was at his peak, forcing him to leave the sport in disgrace. Years later, the championship is back on the line, and Dukes comes out of his exile to lead a rag-tag group of gunners back to the Hudson Valley Paintball Classic Title.

The movie also stars Corddry’s fellow Daily Show vets Rob Riggle and Ed Helms, who is now on The Office, as well as Jack McBrayer of 30 Rock.

Corddry described the process of making this movie fondly. “I remember working a lot of weekends. Basically we all had jobs, and we went up to the Hudson Valley three or four weekends in a row. I think we got that shot basically in six days, just Saturdays and Sundays. It was just all of us guys, we were all improvising together every night anyway so, it seemed like the right thing to do.”

How does Corddry suggest you prepare for watching Blackballed? “First I would just have them read up on Greek Tragedy, bone up on early American literature,” he says, sagely. “A lot of the same tropes working there. And then I would say smoke some weeds.”
