When I say “gritty, dark crime drama,” you say “Janeane Garofalo” – OK?

Gritty, dark crime drama!

And… regardless the outcome of that exercise, let it be known: Comedienne-turned-actor Janeane Garofalo is nearing a deal to join the cast of ‘Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior,’ the spin-off of CBS’ quite similarly named Wednesday night procedural.

For ‘Criminal Minds’ Female Stars, Bad News/Good News

Fronted by Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, ‘CM: SB’ planted its first seeds in May by airing what we like to call an “embedded pilot” as an episode of the original ‘Minds.’

That embedded pilot performed strongly enough that ‘Suspect Behavior’ earned a slot on CBS’ 2010-11 schedule, where it will premiere midseason.

Flying in the face of her successful early career as an irreverent and snide comedienne, Garofalo as of late has been “stretching” her acting muscle, most recently with a 2009 turn on Fox’s ‘24,’ where she played a shifty CTU analyst who wore spectator glasses.

Garofalo’s ‘CM: SB’ gig was first reported by EW.com.
