Syfy is pitting 1980s pop stars Debbie Gibson and Tiffany against each other in ‘Mega Python vs. Gatoroid,’ a Saturday night creature feature set to start production next month.

The original movie presents Gibson (previously of Syfy’s ‘Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus‘) as an animal-rights activist who plucks illegally imported snakes from pet stores and releases them into the Everglades, where they grow to ginormous sizes, says the Hollywood Reporter.

Tiffany (of Syfy’s ‘Mega Piranha‘) in turn plays a park ranger who uses unorthodox methods to preserve endangered alligators.

When the ladies’ agendas clash, so do they, in a brawl that escalates into a swampy, campy showdown.

“Only in my dreams,” says Tiffany (evoking the title of her peer’s hit), “have I been able to have a catfight with Debbie Gibson. Until now! This is so mega cool!”

Gibson in turn notes, “Pop culture fanatics have been dying for Tiffany and me to collaborate for the past 24 years. What better way to do it [than] a campy romp through the Everglades?”

‘Mega Python vs. Gatoroid’ is set for an early 2011 premiere – aka “not soon enough.”
