It’s Showtime for ‘Sex and the City’ star Cynthia Nixon, who has been cast in a recurring role on the pay cabler’s ‘The Big C,’ premiering this summer.

‘The Big C’ stars Academy Award nominee Laura Linney as Cathy, a wife, mom and teacher who tackles life with a new gusto upon being diagnosed with cancer.

Nixon, a Tony and Emmy winner, will appear in at least four episodes as Rebecca, a flaky, long-lost college roommate of Cathy’s who shakes her life up in a wild way.

‘Precious’ Oscar Nominee Gabourey Sidibe Joins Showtime Series

‘The Big C’ also features Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe (‘Precious’) as one of Cathy’s school students, and Brian Cox (‘X-Men 2′) as Cathy’s father.

Season 1 of ‘The Big C’ is currently shooting in Stamford, Connecticut (holla!), with an eye on an August 16 premiere.
