“My whole world changed,” beams the newly engaged Kellie Pickler.
She might not have won ‘American Idol‘ but Kellie Pickler just got something a lot more special.
Her songwriter-boyfriend Kyle Jacobs popped the question on June 15 with a romantic proposal on the beach at sunset, complete with a blanket, champagne and candles.
The date was significant for the ‘Idol’ alum: It was Pickler’s late grandmother’s birthday, so the momentous occasion turned the day from sadness to joy.
“It turned out to be the most amazing day of my life,” the country singer, 23, told PEOPLE. “My whole world changed. We both feel like we got my grandmother’s blessing.”
Pickler, who was raised by her grandmother after she was abandoned by her mother and her father went to jail, credits Jacobs for helping her through hardships and teaching her how to have a healthy relationship.
“Kyle took away all my fear of marriage and has shown me the way love is supposed to be,” she said.
The two met through friends two-and-a-half years ago, and Pickler is now the third recent country bride-to-be, along with friends Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood.
After finishing in sixth place on ‘American Idol’ Season 5, Pickler now has a successful career in country music, even teaming up with other popular country artists such as Taylor Swift.
