Dave’s Weird Chat with Salma Hayek About Bug-Eating and That Snake Video

Dave Letterman is an odd guy. We all know this, and it’s part of his charm. When he gets in one of his weird moods, though, there’s no telling what’s going to happen – especially when combined with a jet-lagged and spacey Salma Hayek (now Salma Hayek Pinault). Last night on The Late Show, they spent a lot of time talking about eating bugs.

It even started off strange, with Dave going oddly highbrow with rhyming her new married name with the Samuel Beckett experimental play Waiting for Godot, which went right over Salma’s head, and it also ended oddly when he got excited to tease her about her accent trying to get her to say “cleep” instead of “clip” when she plugged her film Grown-Ups. In the middle was a lot of chat about her nine dogs and her five horses she saved from slaughterhouses, which led Dave to try and get into a discussion about why there are some cultures who eat horse meat. Then, Salma began to sing the praises of bug-eating, which she called “delicatessens.” Confused? Check out the clip below.

Juggling three languages might mess up anybody’s brain, and eating bugs can’t be helping with that.

Dave also got her to explain that viral video going around, where she completely flipped out at the sight of a snake during the Grown-Ups press junket in Malibu Lake. She didn’t really dwell on her own screaming freak-out besides admitting she has a phobia, but rather the fact that everybody that wasn’t on camera – bodyguards, electricians, tough guys et al – also ran away in terror from the snake, and she had to rely on a brave and manly hairdresser to drive it away. Still, this doesn’t explain how she was able to do that famous snake-dancing scene in From Dusk Till Dawn if she’s so terrified of the slimy suckers.
