A possible spin-off of Lifetime’s ‘Army Wives’ has moved a step closer to reality by recruiting Gabrielle Union (‘FlashForward’) to help head up the cast.

Just as ‘NCIS‘ and ‘Criminal Minds‘ did in 2009 and 2010, respectively, for their own off-shoots, ‘Army Wives’ this season will feature an episode that sets the table for the spin-off. That outing, set to air toward the end of Season 4, will find Pamela (played by original cast member Brigid Brannagh) returning to her former career by signing on as a detective with the Atlanta police department.

Union will in turn be introduced as her partner, Detective Gina Holt, says the Hollywood Reporter.

Should the “embedded spin-off” take hold, Brannagh and Union would move on to their own, yet-to-be-titled series.

Union is no stranger to laying down the law, having played a police officer on both NBC’s ‘Life’ and ABC’s ‘Night Stalker.’

What do you think, ‘Army Wives’ fans? Would you “salute” this potential spin-off?
