As predicted after Dr. Jackson Avery survived last month’s season-ending melee, Jesse Williams will be returning to ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ this fall – and as a series regular, an ABC rep confirms.

‘Grey’s Boss Spills Secrets Behind Killer Finale, Deleted Scenes

Williams made his ‘Grey’s’ debut in October, playing a member of the transplanted Mercy Westers. Not long thereafter, he boldly laid a kiss on Cristina (Sandra Oh). Though he was quickly rebuffed, later in the season Yang seemed to warm up to the guy.

Jackson is one of two lone survivors from the Mercy West crew. In the Season 6 finale, Nora Zehetner’s Reed was the very first victim of a vengeful gunman, while Robert Baker’s Percy – also the recipient of a bullet – managed to hold onto life up until the final act.

‘Everwood’ alumna Sarah Drew‘s April, who was somewhat of an unwitting catalyst to the shooting that almost made Meredith a widow, is the only other living Mercy West crossover, though at this time there is no word on whether she is returning for Season 7.

Katherine Heigl Can’t Watch ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Anymore

News of Williams’ promotion was first reported by EW.com.
