The producers of ‘Ghost Whisperer‘ have announced that despite an 11th-hour look-see by ABC, the canceled CBS series has in fact scared up its last spirit.

“After five wonderful seasons and over 100 episodes, we are disappointed to announce ‘Ghost Whisperer’ will not be returning for a sixth season,” exec producers Kim Moses and Ian Sander said in a statement. “We’ve had an incredible experience and owe a debt of gratitude to everyone involved.”

When ‘Ghost Whisperer’ failed to earn a spot on CBS’ 2010-11 schedule, there was immediately talk that ABC – whose ABC Studios coproduces the drama – might pluck it from the ashes. After much consideration, however, ABC passed.

Even so, Moses and Sander said, “We continue our relationship with ABC Studios and look forward to developing many more successful projects together in the future.”
