Security is being ‘beefed up’ for the twentysomething cast of ‘Jersey Shore‘ this season.

When the ‘GTL’ crew (Gym. Tan. Laundry.) descends on Seaside Heights for Season 2, they will receive police protection 24/7, since the fist-pumping, fist-throwing clan of ‘guidos’ and ‘guidettes’ seem to provoke fights wherever they go.

Seaside Heights Chief of Police Thomas J. Boyd confirms to TMZ that 7 to 10 police officers will be assigned to the cast 24 hours a day during production of the MTV reality show. During the first season, only one officer was assigned to the show.

The attention-getting Boardwalk brawlers include Jenni ‘J-Woww’ Farley, Michael ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino, Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi, Paul ‘Pauly D’ DelVecchio, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, Sammi ‘Sweetheart’ Giancola and Vinny Guadagnino.

Is that the best use of the police force? Really? Should these raucous reality stars be taking cops away from fighting real crime?

The police chief did reveal that a ‘private security company’ is also on deck to help keep the peace, but shouldn’t MTV solely be responsible for hiring bodyguards to protect their stars? Especially considering an ongoing lawsuit alleges that producers “engaged in a “criminal enterprise” by profiting from showing fights that cast members deliberately provoked,” reports the Associated Press.

The 12-episode second season of ‘Jersey Shore,’ shot in Miami Beach and in Seaside Heights, NJ, premieres this summer on MTV.
