When Adam Lambert speaks, ‘American Idol‘ fans listen.

With just two weeks left in ‘Idol’s ninth season, Lambert tossed out his choice for the title that narrowly eluded him a year ago.

Speaking to MTV.com, Lambert, who served as a mentor this season and worked with the top nine finalists as they performed songs from Elvis Presley’s catalog, admitted he’s got Bowersox Fever.

“All three of them are excellent singers,” he said, referring to Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze and Casey James. “They’re all really organic and kind of authentic in what they do. They’re all likable. They were all really nice when I met them on set. If I had to pick one out of those three, I’d probably lean more toward Crystal at this point. I like her anti-establishment rebelliousness.”

Adam Lambert a fan of anti-establishment rebelliousness? Say it ain’t so.

Of course, Bowersox’s brand of rebellion has come in the form of dreadlocks, an area rug on stage and a 1970s-inspired microphone stand, while Lambert opted for the goth-glam black nail polish, fiery stage production and (in his post-’Idol’ days) shoving an occasional backup singer’s face into his crotch.

Lambert’s endorsement is particularly eye-opening to me, though, because I have been saying for weeks in our Eye on Idol live chats (shameless plug: 3:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT Thursdays right here on Fancast.com!) that Bowersox is likely to befall the same fate as Adam did, and it will likely be the result of her “anti-establishment rebelliousness.”

Crystal has a strong core of fans which have kept her out of the bottom of the pack all season, as did Lambert (who only landed in the bottom two once last season). But once the voting comes down just two singers, you can be sure the establishment will rear its powerful head and seal a majority of the votes.

I hope I’m wrong, because I’m with Adam on his pick, but I think Crystal will wind up right where Adam was at the finale, with Lee DeWyze playing the role of Kris Allen. Where do you stand?
