Step back, 'South Park': Comedy Central may 'toon up a new take on Jesus Christ.

Comedy Central has unveiled a development slate of 22 projects that revolve around an obstinate Jesus Christ, stoner humor, funny sex and more.

For starters there is ‘JC,’ a half-hour animated series that would follow Christ to New York City as he tries to escape the shadow of his “powerful but apathetic father,” says the Hollywood Reporter.

Though ‘South Park’ has established its own ‘toon version of Jesus, ‘JC’ (from different producers) would deliver a new take.

Also on Comedy Central’s radar is ‘Highdeas,’ in which comedians ponder the sort of questions that could only be posed by stoners; ‘Live Sex Show,’ where hosts Bert Kreischer and Layla Kayleigh offer a comedic take on carnal relations; ‘Rich Dicks,’ starring Nick Kroll and Jon Daly and based on a FunnyOrDie.com short; and ‘Jon Benjamin Has a Van,’ featuring the titular actor/comedian as an investigative newsman.

Looking to the more immediate future, Comedy Central has set dates for the return of ‘Futurama’ (June 24), the sketch show ‘Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time’ (October) and ‘The Onion Sports Network’ (January 2011).
