Jillian Michaels is on your side, pregnant moms — don’t believe the recent hype about pregnancy “ruining” the body, the NBC reality star says.
“Wow, here is the sad thing. When you become high profile, people look to kind of take shots at you,” Michaels told reporters Monday in Pasadena while promoting her new show ‘Losing it with Jillian,’ which premieres June 1. “I never said the word won’t, I never said the word ‘ruin.’ To have seen how my words were twisted and manipulated are heartbreaking for me. I make a huge effort to be totally transparent with people all the time. I think I am known for that. They say, ‘We know what she is going to say the truth, or what she is thinking and feeling.’ I am a huge advocate for moms and motherhood.”
A recent Women’s Health story quotes Michaels as saying, “I can’t handle doing that to my body,” about pregnancy, and that she preferred to adopt. “Also, when you rescue something, it’s like rescuing a part of yourself.”
Monday, the ‘Biggest Loser’ star clarified her statements: “Right now, it looks like adoption would be in my future. I don’t judge anyone for
their choices. I am not making any kinds of statements. I never said pregnancy would ruin a body. I am just disheartened that it got manipulated as such.”
Michaels, who also said in the Women’s Health interview that she has dated men and women, said there is a reason — which she prefers to
keep secret from public knowledge for the time — that she does not want to have children.
“For me, unfortunately, it’s not something I want to get fully into at this moment in time, but there are extenuating circumstances that make my choice the conclusion I have arrived at,” Michaels said Monday. “Maybe one day I will talk about it. I don’t know that right now is really the time. I am trying to launch a show and a cookbook. My hormone balance a little off the topic. But I would say this, that any woman who is planning on getting pregnant, being pregnant, and getting her pre-pregnancy body back, it’s really the same as being healthy. You don’t change a thing. You eat as cleanly as possible. You work out to the safest and best of your abilities before, during, and after. I have always said that. By the way, I have decided my favorite Hollywood body is Madonna, and she has had two kids.”
Michaels also spoke with Access Hollywood about the controversy Monday. “I can’t understand how people can judge or question something that they haven’t even bothered to find out if it’s real or not,” she said. “It’s more complicated, way more complicated than that and again, that’s not what I’m here to do today, but I used the word ‘can’t’ and I used the word ‘handle.’ ‘Handle’ is not ‘ruin’ and ‘can’t’ is not ‘won’t.’ ‘Won’t’ is a choice.”
