The publishing and television news world are afraid of Oprah Winfrey, or so says author Kitty Kelley — she has written a biography of Oprah and took to NBC’s ‘Today Show‘ this morning in order to chat up Matt Lauer and promote her tell-all book.
Telling Lauer that neither Barbara Walters nor David Letterman would allow her on their respective television shows, Kelley’s biography of perhaps the most powerful woman in the media reportedly has some bombshell tidbits about Oprah.
The New York Daily News reports on an excerpt from the forthcoming book in which Kelley describes a 1970s love affair between Oprah and John Tesh, former host of ‘Entertainment Tonight‘ and now radio personality.
Oprah Winfrey, John Tesh Relationship Shocker:
Tesh and Oprah lived together in Nashville, according to the biography, but then race and “social pressure” shattered their romance.
“[Tesh] said one night he looked down and saw his white body next to her black body and couldn’t take it anymore,” one of Tesh’s ex’s said. “He walked out in the middle of the night. … He told me he later felt very guilty about it.”
In another leaked excerpt from the highly anticipated unauthorized bio, Kelley writes that Oprah won’t give her mother her direct phone number.
Oprah has decided not to comment on Kelley’s book, according to her spokeswoman.
Tesh, who is now married to actress Connie Sellecca, confirmed his relationship with Winfrey to ET: “Oprah and I were cub reporters in Nashville nearly 40 years ago and we dated for a short time. We even talked about it during one of my appearances on her show. We remain friends to this day.”
