With its spring premiere, ABC’s ‘V‘ (Tuesdays at 10/9c) suggested that Anna’s daughter Lisa ultimately will figure largely into the Visitors’ ssssinister plan. Fancast spoke with ‘Smallville’ alumna Laura Vandervoort about what sort of dark agenda the sunny blonde might have.
So, what is your take on the Vs’ mating habits?
You meaning killing the male afterward? I think it’s fantastic.
I imagine every girl at one point has wanted to do that….
I can imagine a few guys I wouldn’t have minded hurting. Oh, I’m just kidding. But no, I think that’s very natural, since they’re animalistic. And especially for Anna – she’s evil enough that it makes complete sense for her to “throw them away.”
I’m curious how that scene read in the actual script.
It was something along the lines of “Her jaw slowly recedes, teeth come out, and… cut to black.” [Laughs]
It now looks like Anna’s plan involves not just Tyler, but that Lisa will play a big role in it as well.
Yes, she gets to say more than “Yes, mother” in the upcoming weeks. They’re slowly building Lisa’s story, and in the episodes we’ve been shooting lately, her stuff is getting pretty meaty. She is next in line for queen V, so she has a lot on her shoulders. The storyline with Tyler will get very interesting.
Is it possible she will develop actual feelings for the guy?
I’m sure it’s possible. Look at Morris Chestnut’s character – he’s a V, and he’s fallen in love with a woman and is now having a child with her. It’s possible; I just don’t think all of the Vs have that ability.
Are you going to get a chance to interact with more characters as the season continues?
That’s what the upcoming scenes are about. Lisa is interacting with people that I didn’t expect her to. They’re intertwining all the characters finally.
Have you gotten a chance to flash some lizard flesh yet?
Thus far no, I haven’t shown any lizard skin. I’d be excited to, but at the same time, as soon as I show the lizard skin the audience maybe wont care for Lisa as much. It would change the way they view her.
Tell me about your role in the TV-movie ‘Riverworld.’
I play Jessie, who is engaged to Tahmoh Penikett’s character. We die at the beginning of the film and are reborn on this riverbank. Everyone from all over the world is reborn at the same time in a kind of purgatory. It’s already premiered in the UK, but I’m not sure when it premieres here.
Is the ‘V’ set anywhere close to where in Vancouver they shoot ‘Smallville’? Run into an old castmates?
No, we shoot ‘V ‘on the North Shore, so they’re not that close. But I did see Kristin Kreuk (ex-Lana) the other day, walking near where I live. So that was nice!
