‘Man’ down, man down!

Charlie Sheen is reportedly leaving his hit CBS sitcom ‘Two and a Half Men‘ after seven seasons, a source tells People.com.

“Charlie’s just done,” says a set insider. “And he’s quietly telling his friends he’s not coming back.”

Sheen, who is the highest paid actor on TV right now, allegedly wants out. His contract obligations will be fulfilled as of the 22nd episode, so the April 9th taping could be Sheen’s last day on set.

“He wants to move on,” says a friend of Sheen’s. “Leaving is 100 percent his idea.”

The troubled actor has been coping with a heavy load of personal issues over the last several months, including a trip to rehab, a rocky marriage and a Christmas Day arrest.

A source tells Fancast that Sheen and the show are in the midst of talks regarding his return for an eighth season.

Sheen’s rep Stan Rosenfield would only comment that: “Charlie’s deal is only through this current season.”

CBS and Warner Bros. TV have no comment on Sheen’s contract status.

How primo is Sheen’s negotiating position? Very. A while back, CBS renewed ‘Men’ through the 2011-12 TV season. So, in theory, the show must go on… or else.

One possible solution to this all, courtesy of the Fancast braintrust: Keep Courtney Thorne-Smith’s soon-to-debut “hot mom” character around as a series regular, shift the focus to the zany woes of two single parents who are dating, and rejigger the title.
