Could one of America’s most notorious serial killers be tied to the 30-year-old case of little Adam Walsh?

America’s Most Wanted‘ host John Walsh thought the unsolved murder case of his son Adam Walsh was finally closed after Otis Toole was named the killer in 2008 by the Hollywood Florida Police Department.

People has details on two new witnesses who have come forward that link notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer to the kidnapping and eventual decapitation of Walsh’s six-year-old son in the grisly 1981 homicide.

“Once I saw that picture of Dahmer, I said ‘That’s him,’” Janice Santamassino told the Miami Herald of a “disheveled” man she saw in the toy department of a shop in the Hollywood Mall in Hollywood, Fla., on July 27, 1981.

Another witness, Jennie Warren, saw the young boy playing at an arcade in the mall while a man who she believes to be Dahmer was standing beside him.

When Florida detectives questioned Dahmer about Adam Walsh’s murder, he replied “Nothing to do with it.” And astonishingly enough, the multiple-murderer was taken at his word.

Dahmer killed 17 men and boys between 1987 and 1991 in and around the Milwaukee area, but in 1981, Dahmer was discharged from the Army and was living in Miami Beach–about 20 miles away from where Walsh disappeared.

Toole’s 1996 deathbed confession wasn’t the first time he took credit for the grisly beheading of Adam Walsh. The drifter, who succumbed to liver failure in prison, had admitted to murdering the young boy on several occasions, only to recant each time.

In 1991, 31-year-old Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested on charges of decapitation, necrophilia and cannibalism. Three years later he was killed in prison by an inmate.
