Classic Moment In Hot Tub History: ‘SNL’s “Hot Tub Lovers”

Hot Tub Time Machine‘ opens in theaters today, calling to mind a classic moment in hot tub history: Will Ferrell and Rachel Dratch’s “Hot Tub Lovers” sketch on ‘Saturday Night Live.’

The skit, in which Ferrell and Dratch nauseatingly refer to each other as “my lov-ah,” uncomfortably pairs the duo¬† – in the “scalding waters” of a hot tub – with host Drew Barrymore and former ‘SNL’ cast member Jimmy Fallon.

What makes this particular scene in the familiar “lovers” series so memorable is that no one can keep their composure – the sheer ridiculousness of the sketch causes every actor to break character on live television.

Fallon starts with a laughing fit at the 2:25 mark, and is quickly followed by Ferrell, Barrymore, and then Dratch, as she and husband Professor Roger Klarvin (Ferrell) enjoy a fine spiced lamb shank:
