A new report says that Chris Evans has been offered the title role in Joe Johnston’s The First Avenger: Captain America, but there’s no word on whether or not he’s actually accepted the offer. Evans would be an interesting choice, as he’s already played around in the Marvel movie universe before, as the wisecracking hothead Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch, in Fantastic Four (and most fans considered him the best part of that incarnation of the franchise), but Ryan Reynolds has already set that precedent by playing Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity as well as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Evans is also starring in the DC Comics adaptation The Losers (just as Reynolds is starring in DC’s Green Lantern) as well as appearing the indie comic movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
There are complications – Evans is slated to film a rom-com with Anna Faris this summer at the same time that Cap would be filming. Another would be the responsibility for three Cap films, any Avengers films and various other Marvel movie appearances, purported to be a nine-picture deal in all – a hell of a commitment to make, even with a big potential upside. Will he do it? More importantly, will you dig it if he does it?
