Glenn Beck often draws heat from left-leaning media, but now the Fox News host is causing controversy from within, with the network reportedly divided about the often over-the-top stylings of its latest star.

The Washington Post‘s Howard Kurtz writes that some insiders are concerned about Beck’s trumped up attention. Fox journalists “are worried about the prospect that Beck is becoming the face of the network,” he reported on Monday.

Fox News Vice President Bill Shine didn’t sound too concerned about his employees’ qualms, telling Kurtz, “sometimes it might make their job a little more difficult,” before adding, “Well, almost everybody here has been popular or controversial at some point in the last 13 years.” Kurtz also spoke with Fox News employees claiming Beck stages his high-strung antics, including the infamous teary breakdowns, although a Beck spokesperson quickly shot that down as “cowardly” complaints.

But, if the support coming from Fox News’ head honcho Roger Ailes is any indication of things to come, Beck is still sitting pretty on the network. Ailes is reportedly the man that first convinced Beck to jump from CNN’s Headline News to Fox News, and has since watched his recruit become a ratings winner.

In January, it was reported that Beck’s popularity is a factor of contention with Bill O’Reilly.
